2022
July – Off grid cabin in the woods completed for holiday habitation.
May/August – Exciting new residential project in Oxfordshire.
April – Breaking ground on newbuild corner house in Bishops Tawton, North Devon.
February – 6x new dwellings in North Devon complete. These were 5x refurbishments and extensions to an industrial works shed and a Victorian Reading Rooms plus 1x new build house all in the Bishops Tawton conservation area. These are all now occupied.
2021
October – Off Grid 2x storey cabin in the woods on site and ready for the winter.
July – Planning permission approved for multi unit refurbishment access and external amenity are upgrade in Islington London.
April/July – Exciting new residential project with a listed cottage in Devon.
2020
September – Planning success – for a new build 4x bedroom house in the Conservation Area of Bishops Tawton, North Devon. This is a contemporary vernacular house on a prominent corner with gorgeous aspects to the Taw Valley and a circular front referencing the bay wings of nearby listed house.
August – Cabin in the woods under construction reusing leftover farm use and farmhouse timbers.
June – Exciting new build project for a house in the Conservation Area of Bishops Tawton, North Devon.
May – New look website launched.
April – Planning approved – for an interesting extension to a lovely cottage in Instow, North Devon with great estuary views.
February – JB Architects appointed for design work on the Kingsley Earth Centre. Exciting times.
2019
November – As part of Kingsley Schools’ very special ‘Earth Day’ on the 26th JB Architects presented The Earth Centre building to an audience of 350 having followed after wonderful talks by: Sir Tim Smit (Eden Project), Christopher Upton (Greene’s College Oxford) and Headmaster Pete Last. October– Working on a very exciting project to design a new 1000m2 school building ‘The Earth Centre’ at Kingsley School, North Devon. The building is to house a 100x seat lecture theater, 2/3x science labs, open practical learning areas & independent study areas.
March – Planning permission & Listed Building Consent granted for Barn conversion into an Artist’s studio and swimming pool.
February – Planning permission granted for 5x dwellings in North Devon. 1x 2x bed house converted from a Victorian Reading Room. 3x 3x bed Houses converted from a historic agricultural workshops and 1x 4x bed new house.
2018
December – Planning permission & Listed Building Consent submitted for Barn conversion into an Artist’s studio and swimming pool.
November – Planning permission submitted for 5x dwellings in North Devon.
March -6x bed House refurbishment and extension in North Devon completed.
2017
August – 6x Bed Grade II listed house in London WC1 completed and immediately let.
April – 4x Bed new build house in Northants completed.
February – 7x Bed house refurbishment & new build in Northants completed.
2016
August – JB Architects relocate to Devon
April/ May – House in South Wales now complete. 2x roof extensions in London complete. 2x houses in Northants under construction and design work continues for 5x new houses in Finsbury London.
January/ February – Design work on 4-5x new houses in Finsbury London WC1 on a very constrained site. JB architects has 5x projects on site: 2x in London; a listed house refurbishment in Finsbury and loft extension in Harlesden. 2x in Northamptonshire. House in South Wales near completion.
2015
November/ December – Mud!!! Both projects in Northamptonshire; one a new house another a major refurbishment and contemporary extension break ground simultaneously. Loft extension in Hammersmith complete.
October – JB Architects Cabanon competition design featured in RIBA Journal.
July – Planning received for a loft and rear extension in Hammersmith and Fulham and a loft in Harlesden.
August – New school ‘treeroom’ designed for a School in the South Midlands.
June – Big Project!!! Appointed to design a terrace of 8x new mews style houses in Finsbury London WC1.
March – Appointed to remodel Village Hall in Buckinghamshire. Structure & stonework now complete on house in Monmouthshire.
January -Design work begun on exciting new-build contemporary house in Northamptonshire.
2014
December – Received planning approval for large extension to cottage in Northamptonshire.
September – Our large extension to a cottage in Monmouthshire is on-site with excavations and RC well underway. JB spent 2 days exploring a villa in Ibiza for a very exciting new commission.
July – Islands!!! – Commissions for both a residential extension to a cottage in South Uist in The Outer Hebrides, Scotland and for a new extension to a converted farmhouse in Ibiza.
March – Belgrave Mews Project featured in March 2014 Build-It Magazine- an 8 page spread with full project details.

January –THE MO FARAH FOUNDATION RESIDENTIAL TRAINING COLLEGE AND SPORTS CENTRE IN SOMALILAND GETS OFF TO A RUNNING START
The Mo Farah Foundation and JB Architects have revealed proposals for a 3000m2 boarding school and sports centre for disadvantaged children in the Horn of Africa. The new complex is to be built outside the capital city Hargeisa and will be the first of its kind in Somaliland.
Providing amenities for up to 190 boys and girls from new-borns up to 18; the plans include a dining hall, classrooms, a small library and masjid as well as sports facilities for athletics, a 400m track, football pitch, basketball court and playground.
The proposals are inspired by traditional African villages and feature a variety of secure open spaces as well as informal mixed play areas and a centralised community area. The facility is designed with the extremes of the local climate in mind, will provide homely dwellings and be self-reliant.
2013
December – B1 office/studio refurb almost a ‘new build’ near completion in London N19.
November – Planning received for challenging residential cottage extension in Monmouthshire. On-site in London SW3 for a residential refurb and extension project in the conservation area. For the 2nd year running James wins Belgravia resident’s association annual photography competition 1st prize and has another commended.
October – With the Stage 1 concept design now submitted for the new Orphanage & Sports Center in Somaliland James finally gets to meet one of his clients; Mo Farah. It is a principle of JB Architects that we always strive to meet our primary client face to face, however busy and international they are and even if it means queuing up in the rain and buying a signed autobiography at their book launch!
September – JB Architects in shortlist of 5 for two new projects in Central London for The Church Commissioners.
June – JB Architects are getting stuck into an exciting new project for a new orphanage, sports hall and track in Somaliland for The Mo Farah Foundation.
May – JB Architects giving expert advice again at ‘Ask an Expert’ – Grand Designs Live Expo – London Docklands.
April – Start on-Site in N19 for a B1 office/studio refurb almost a ‘new build’ and designed to be easily modified into a new dwelling to meet 2013+ Energy saving targets for new homes.
