School – Somaliland

Near Hargiesa, Somaliland

For The Mo Farah Foundation: a  new 3000m2 boarding school and sports centre for disadvantaged children in the Horn of Africa. The new complex is to be built outside the capital city Hargeisa and will be the first of its kind in Somaliland. Providing amenities for up to 190 boys and girls from new-borns up to 18; the plans include a dining hall, classrooms, a small library and masjid as well as sports facilities for athletics, a 400m track, football pitch, basketball court and playground.

The first proposal was on a relatively small site hence the 2 storey Version 1 design and a larger site was subsequently procured. The latest Version 2 proposals are inspired by traditional African villages and feature a variety of secure gender segregated open spaces as well as informal mixed play areas and a centralized community area. The facility is designed with the extremes of the local climate in mind, will provide homely dwellings and be self-reliant.
